hey, im gonna be getting a blue and gold macaw named Millie. Shes three years old, and is a sweet bird, but shes got her days. Do you have any tips on training, recall, and how to get her to trust me more? Her previous owner got married and became pregnate so she gave up the bird because she couldnt spend enough time with it. This is also my first bird, big or small, so im overflowing with questions. Thanks for whatever you can help me with,Kate-Lynn

lol, my friend has her budgie sit on her finger, then with her other hand puts it in a cup over the bird while saying duck 'n' cover, the bird then ducks upside-down holding on with one foot, and hangs there 'til you tell him to come back up, we're teaching her other bird and mine to do the same!

I saw them, that's awesome! Jessie's all over the place, LOL, the monster ;) I have one piece of advice on the flight training. It's said to have them fly to you instead of a perch, etc. so that in case they get out accidentally, they'll be trained to fly to you and not fly away. If you'd like, I belong to a recall training group on yahoo that I can give you a link to :) They're a great bunch of people.

Yep still flight training! How's Jess doing with the flying? I just posted new videos of my flight training. :)

Bailey must be a trick bird, then ;) Are you still flight training her? Jessie loves to talk and will run her beak at times. One of her favorite phrases is "stick 'em up". I could never bring her to a bank with me, lol.

No, not yet. She isn't big on the talking yet, but she is still pretty young. [6 years] It seems like it takes her a long time to pick up new sounds and words, but I have faith in her! She just now started saying 'Good girl!' I'm hopeful that she'll get a bigger vocabulary as she ages. |
